Institute of Legal Executives
PGED – FAST TRACK

Three month study period
Post Graduate Entry Diploma

This is an exciting development on a programme already developed by our Principal. It offers qualifying law graduates the opportunity to become Members of the Institute of Legal Executives in just a nine week study period. It is a direct alternative to the LPC solicitor route practice qualification.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is ILEX?

ILEX, the Institute of Legal Executives is the governing body for all its Student Members, Members and Fellows. It was established in 1963. It has the same status as The Law Society for solicitors and is recognised by the Ministry of Justice as being the ‘third arm’ of the legal profession. In other words, it has the same status as The Bar Council and The Law Society.

Who are Legal Executives and what do they do?

Legal Executives are fully qualified lawyers.  A Legal Executive has a similar day to day role as a solicitor and they are valuable fee earning members of legal practices and some are in very senior positions heading up teams of lawyers. The Legal Services Act 2007 has provided enormous opportunities to those involved in the legal services industry and Members and Fellows of ILEX will be in prime position to benefit.

Legal Executives can:
Become Partners in law firms
Be Commissioners for Oaths
Apply for Judicial appointments
Legal Executive Advocates have the same rights of audience in court as solicitors in their chosen discipline.

Why choose the PGED over the LPC?

There are a number of very important reasons why you should choose the
ILEX route to qualify as a lawyer:

•    The opportunity to become a fee earner with a practice qualification in just a few months of obtaining your law degree.
•    No need to fund the extremely high cost of the LPC.
•    Only 2 months living expenses whilst you study.
•    Will qualify to practise in a fraction of the time of your counterparts undertaking the LPC.
•    Legal Executives do not need a training contract to practise.
•    Low tuition fees in comparison to LPC.
•    The employment opportunities are excellent.

Do I have the right qualifications to join the course?

You will need a qualifying law degree obtained within the last seven years.
